IA9100 Transition Guide: Moving from AS9100D to IA9100
The aerospace quality management standard you know as AS9100 is being revised and re-identified as IA9100 under the International Aerospace Quality Group (IAQG). Paradygm Consulting helps aviation, space and defence organizations understand what is changing, plan a realistic transition and prepare their teams well before their certification body arrives.
We are an independent consulting and auditing firm with more than 25 years of experience in ISO-based management systems. We do not issue certificates; we help you get ready for the audit your certification body (CB) will perform.

Who this guide is for
- Manufacturers and design organizations certified to AS9100D today and planning for IA9100.
- Maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) providers holding AS9110 — see the IA9110 transition brief.
- Stockist distributors holding AS9120 — see the IA9120 transition brief.
- Quality managers, management representatives and internal auditors who need a plain-language summary to brief leadership.
- Organizations pursuing first-time certification that would rather build to the new requirements than transition twice.
What we offer
- IA9100 gap assessment — a structured review of your current AS9100D system against the expected IA9100 themes, with a prioritized action plan. Learn about consulting.
- Implementation support — help updating processes, procedures, risk tools and records so changes are practical, not just paperwork.
- Team training — awareness sessions for leadership and staff, plus deeper workshops for quality teams. See training.
- Internal audit support — independent internal audits against the new requirements before your CB transition audit.
- Integrated systems — alignment with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and R2 where you run more than one standard.
The expected timeline (estimate)
Based on the most recent IAQG information available to us (as summarized in May 2026), the expected sequence is:
- Late 2026 — expected publication of IA9100.
- Around 1 January 2027 — certification bodies expected to begin auditing to IA9100.
- Through roughly 2029 — transition window during which AS9100D certificates are expected to be moved to IA9100.
These dates are estimates and may change. The IAQG is the authority on publication and transition rules. Always confirm the dates that apply to you with your certification body and the IAQG. Read the full AS9100 to IA9100 transition guide.

Why start now
Transition windows tend to feel long until the audit calendar fills up. Organizations that run a gap assessment early can spread changes across normal management review and internal audit cycles, train people without rushing, and generate the records an auditor will expect to see. Starting early also gives you time to talk with your CB about scheduling.
Talk to a consultant
Tell us about your organization, your current certificate and your target audit date. We will suggest a sensible next step — often a short scoping call followed by a gap assessment.
